Africa Antiqua Expeditions into the Old World

Africa Antiqua is a unique tour company that offers expeditions, outings and presentations focusing on the rich and varied cultural, historical and prehistoric heritage of Southern Africa and various areas of ancient Europe.

Africa is widely regarded as the mother continent. It is here that much of life on earth and the origins of humanity had its birth. Our excursions include visits to some of the earliest dinosaur and early-man sites in the world.  In addition, we are fortunate to boast some of the finest and most complex prehistoric rock art ranging in date from approximately 27 000  to about 100 years ago.

Southern Africa and old-world Europe presents a rich mosaic of living cultures, and of sacred and profane places on magical landscape, permeated and saturated with symbolic and historic import.  Our expeditions visit many of these holy places, such as sacred caves and waterfalls of  Palaeolithic man of Europe and the Stone Age Bushmen of southern Africa, the sacred and abandoned stone-walled ruins of the great Venda Empire of Southern Africa’s Limpopo Province, and so reminiscent of the famous romantic novels of Rider Haggard or the hidden ruined cities of Hollywood’s Indiana Jones. In Ireland we visit the great monasteries such as Glendalough and Clonmacnoise, moody castles dating to the time of the legendary High King and war lord, Brian Boru, of the Dell Cassian tribe, atmospheric castles, lonely megalithic stones and tombs, including Tara and Newgrange.

In southern Africa, not only will visitors have the opportunity to interact with members of the oldest living human population in the world, namely the San but expeditions are also structured to incorporate the cultural expressions and battle sites of legendary clans and great tribes, such as the once mighty Zulu nation - arguably Africa’s best known and celebrated warrior tribe.

Unlike any other tour company, Africa Antiqua offers an exciting opportunity for canine lovers to visit areas associated with the development of our earliest domesticate,  the dog.  Not only have many dog breeds been developed on the African continent, the Middle East and Old World Europe, but pariah dogs are still very much part and parcel of African tribal village life and village life of the Middle East and parts of Europe, such as Spain and Italy. Africa Antiqua is very interested in the wild canids and try to include them in our tours wherever possible. Our canid tours are directed at a very select market of dog-lovers and cynologists for whom our canid tours are very carefully structured.

All of our tours are accompanied by experts in the respective fields and will give visitors a truly unique insight and experience of Africa's and

Europe's fascinating past. Moreover, our tours are structured so as to incorporate some of the world's wildest nature areas and associated wildlife, such as South Africa's Kruger Park and other numerous conservation areas of Africa and Europe, as well as isolated and largely untouched nature areas of both continents.
